Advice for Running a Successful Business: Persistence

Running a successful business of your own is one of the most rewarding goals most people could achieve. The challenge is that many people want to receive the rewards without putting in the hard work required. This is what make so many people susceptible to various scams that promise to make you rich overnight without having to put in any work. Unfortunately, after falling for 2 or 3 of these scammers, people give up decide that having a successful business is impossible. It doesn’t have to be this way.

If you want to start and run your own business and become successful at it, there’s one character trait you absolutely must possess; persistence. Every business takes time, patience to build, and making the right choices/sacrifices for the good of the business. During the beginning stages, you will run into challenges, and sometimes you’ll feel like giving up. The first year or two can feel like an uphill climb. The tragedy is that most people will not make it through this period because they were not prepared for it.

However, making choices for the good of the business when hiring new employees, training materials, special cost exceptions for customer, and who does the taxes. Choosing how best to go about these topics can affect the business in it’s entirety. Having the right materials and having a professional help you with finances can be vital to first year survival.

Let me draw an analogy here that is relevant to anyone who has children. When your child was born, weren’t you already aware that there would be numerous trials when raising your kid? So why didn’t you just give up and throw in the towel when you couldn’t seem to toilet train your child or teach them how to behave? The answer is that for most people their love for their child and level of commitment to raising them far surpasses the trouble they know they will have along the way. In the end, the reward is a child that grows up to be a successful, well adjusted adult.

If you want your business to succeed, you need to look at it in a similar way. Right now, it’s in its infancy. There will be many growing pains along the way, but the ultimate reward of your persistence will be a stable and successful long-term business.
